DT Doodles for Kiwi Lane (Week 12)

Happy Monday!  For this week's DT Doodles sketch for Kiwi Lane, I had the opportunity to play around with Quick Quotes' "Stowaway" collection.  Filled with shades of brown and aqua blues with bits of darker blue and peach, this collection is super versatile!  I chose to use some sepia toned pictures I have been saving for just the right paper.  Confession- these photos are almost 4 years old!  I tend to hold onto my most favorite photos, just waiting for someone to come along with a collection of paper that will be perfect.... does anyone else do this? or am I the only one??  Anyway, I was digging through my supplies and was thrilled to run across a Quick Quotes vellum quote that I vaguely remember buying a few years ago... ok, more like 10 years ago.  (Apparently I also save my supplies to match with the perfect pictures!)  The quote was about beauty and the pictures were my beautiful kiddos- perfect!  So, perfect paper, perfect pictures, perfect quote and here's what I came up with:

Supplies: patterned paper and vellum quote (Quick Quotes); brads (Basic Grey); glitter glue (Ranger); paper flowers (American Crafts); doilies (OwlSupply on Esty, craft supply)

I loved the way the paper doilies looked with the Tiny Wildflowers!  So I added a bunch.  If you don't want/have doilies, the rings would work as a substitute.  Brackets would also work.   I didn't do any inking on this layout- totally not the norm for me!  Instead of ink, I distressed the edges of everything so that more of the white core of the paper was showing.  To finish up, I added some glitter glue, a few brads and a few paper flowers.

Templates:
  • Tiny Wildflower 3T, 6T
  • Cascade Trails 1B, 3B
  • Mini Paisley 2B, 3A & 3B
  • Tiny Shapes 3T
  • Tags 6

With some of my leftover paper, I made this "Bon Voyage" card:
Supplies: patterned paper (Quick Quotes); letter stickers (Making Memories); twine (Pebbles)

This card measures approximately 4" x 8".  If you don't want to use the cruise ship template, feel free to switch it out for whatever suits the theme of your card- brackets, some more tiny flowers, Accents or any other medium size shape would work in that spot.  You can also use any of the 8" mini borders instead of using part of a 12" trail template like I did.  Use this card as a jumping off point and let your creativity run wild!

Templates:
  • Tiny Wildflower 1T, 4T
  • Cascade Trails 1B, 2A
  • Journey 7

Dyeing for Easter

Since Easter is coming up at the end of the month, I thought maybe I'd share my most recent Easter layout.  I assumed it was just last years photos... I was wrong. It's from two years ago.  I swear, at one point I was actually caught up in my scrapbooking.  Then I printed my photos and had a few hundred to do... anyone else have that happen?  ;)  Anyway, here's an Easter egg layout I did a few months ago with photos from 2011:

Supplies: patterned paper, tags, brads, die cuts, pink glitter letter stickers, green letter stickers, staples (Making Memories); flowers (Imaginisce, Heidi Swapp); ribbon (American Crafts); brown chipboard letters (My Mind's Eye); edge punch (Martha Stewart Crafts); ink (Ranger); book plate (K & Company); pen (ZIG); baker's twine (Lilly Belle's Paperie on Etsy)

I used one of the Kiwi Lane Tag templates for the patterned paper on both pages.  This layout went together fairly quickly.  I think the part that took the longest was trying to figure out how I wanted my flowers layered.  Here's a bit of a closer look:
That's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by and Happy Scrapping!

Baby Blessing Layouts

A few posts back, I mentioned that I FINALLY made pages with J's baby blessing photos.... from three and a half years ago.  I also mentioned that I hadn't done anything with the photos because I couldn't find the right paper.  Well, as I mentioned in that earlier post, the My Mind's Eye Kraft Fun Day collection was just perfect!  So here are the rest of the pages from that day- most of them are generation photos.  And I seem to have a recurrent theme of circles.  It wasn't planned.  I must have been in a circle mood when I made them??

I used a bunch of Kiwi Lane templates (of course!) and I had fun with some Lucky 8 Punches (both large and small) from We R Memory Keepers.  And I used some little bags for hiding some journaling on a couple pages.  So whatcha think?  I always appreciate feedback!

Happy Scrapping!

Kiwi Lane Blog Hop!

Welcome to Kiwi Lane's Blog Hop for March! I'm so happy to have you here!!  Hopefully you came here from Jennifer Budge's blog.  If not, hop on over to the Kiwi Lane blog and start from the beginning- you don't want to miss any of the awesome scrapbooking inspiration, do you?  There's even a prize involved!  One lucky commenter from one of the 10 blogs (including the Kiwi Lane blog) will be randomly chosen to win a $25 gift code to the Kiwi Lane Shop- so don't forget to comment along the way!  Here's the blog order, just in case you get lost:

5. Gail Owens (You are here)

Being a member of the Kiwi Crew, I wasn't given an assignment to use just one set of templates... I was told to use whatever featured templates I wanted to use!  Freedom to create- one of my favorite things... and here's what I did with that freedom:

Flower Power
Supplies: cardstock (Provo Craft); patterned paper, felt stickers, letter stickers (Basic Grey); spray ink (Studio Calico); stamp (Scenic Route); thread (Coats & Clark); ink (Ranger); pen (ZIG)

Kiwi Lane Templates: Cascade Trails (3A & B), Mini Paisley Place (2A & B), Tiny Wildflower (1T, 2T, 4T, 5T), Floral (1), Tiny Floral (1T), Rings (1, 3), Paradise 6

I wanted to try to use at least one template from each of March's featured sets (Cascade Trails, Mini Paisley Place, Floral and Tiny Wildflower) on this layout just to show how well they all worked together.  And I wanted to show that the mini (8") templates can be used on 12" layouts.  Did I succeed?  I'll leave that answer up to you! ;)

Here are a few close ups of my 2 page 12x12 layout:
(And please excuse the messy stitching on my layout- my sewing machine decided to have a hissy fit and I ended up with the most uneven stitches EVER!!  Or maybe they add character....?)

Can I just say (for the 234,049,029,996th time!) how much I love my Kiwi Lane Templates and how easy they make my scrapbook pages!  I was able to plan out this layout and finish it within two hours- and that was WITH kiddos running around, taking time out to rotate loads of laundry, waiting for ink to dry AND trying to sew with a persnickety machine!  Seriously, I'm all for simplifying, and that is exactly what the templates do for me!

That's it from me today... don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win a gift code for the Kiwi Lane Shop.  You have until 11:59 pm MST on Sunday March 3, 2013 to enter to win.

Next up is Neela Nalam's blog.

Happy Scrapping!!
